This year marked many firsts for me in relation to fitness, including attending my first ever BodyPower expo event in Birmingham’s NEC. Like many other fitness events, I have always considered going, however I have never gone through with the plans and committed myself. Nonetheless, this year I did and boy am I happy I finally decided to go.
As I walked into the exhibition, I was like a kid in a candy store. I was standing, smiling away to myself as I took in all of the amazing sights and sounds around me.
For those of you who don’t know what Bodypower Expo is all about, it’s the worlds number 1 fitness and bodybuilding exhibition. Which means all the biggest and best fitness supplement, apparel and athletes are all there! Great if like me you have a bit of an eye for the fitness celebrity.
This year there were about 450 exhibitors and brands at the show, many of whom brought along their sponsored athletes. They were giving free samples, running demonstrations, holding meet and greets and hosting exciting fitness themed competitions for visitors to get involved in.
In fact myself and Sam (a buddy from work) couldn’t resist a little competition between ourselves so we got involved in the ‘spin competition’ on the Grenade stand. Needless to say, I beat him. Just in case you were wondering! I guess the Bodypower expo is a great opportunity for brands to interact with the health and fitness community face to face.
During the day I spotted and met many athletes and fitness stars. The highlight for me was meeting Youtube favourite Calum von Moger, who dominated the chat amongst visitors. Over the course of the day we also saw boxer Chris Eubank Jr., Steve Cook, Nikki Blackketter, Dana Linn Bailey, Kai Greene, Rich Piana and legendary four times winner Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler!
Although the exhibition span across three days, one day at this event for enough me, I was exhausted by the end of it! However I did leave feeling motivated and excited to get on with my fitness regime, especially after picking up lots of new products and free samples from the event. I even had the chance to catch up with the the guys from PhD Nutrition again who were there promoting the launch of their new Smart Bar range.
Next year marks BodyPower’s 10th Anniversary and I have no doubt in believing that it will continue to be the ultimate destination for fitness enthusiasts for years to come. I can’t wait to go again, so see you there!
