At the end of last year I was reading a fitness article in the Evening Standard about the new GymBox Flatline class in Farringdon. Branded as ‘the hardest and most dangerous gym class in the world’ I loved the sound of it so I contacted GymBox and got myself and my friend Sha booked on straight away.
Created by experienced Gymbox trainers and leading endurance experts, Flatline aims to test all elements of strength and stamina with increasingly difficult tasks over a 45 minute period.
When I arrived at the class I was introduced to the classes instructor Firas Iskandarani. To say this man is fit would be an understatement! He held the classes attention from the moment go. Giving drills and orders similar to that of an Army Sargent. This instantly gave myself and the rest of the class the knowledge this would be no walk in the park!
The class is made up of seven stations. The first six are all activity based and the seventh is a rest station (this station is your friend). Firas ran through a demo of each station before we started (so we could see what we were letting ourselves in for). He had laid out light, medium & heavy weights for each station and the idea was to complete each station 6 times. (Easy right? Pahhh)
The heaviest stations were:
I completed my first wave on all the lightest weights so I knew what sort of trouble I was going to be in for the next five waves. I then did my next two waves on the heaviest weights, followed by two waves of medium weights and finally finishing the sixth wave on the lightest weight again.
You learn quick that if you rep out the station you’re on then you can grab a cheeky extra breather before the claxon sounds and you’re dragging yourself to the next station.
As classes go this was without doubt one of the toughest I have ever been to. I am very pleased and proud to say that I completed this class as I am always looking to push myself and achieve more when it comes to my fitness levels!
HELL YEAH. If you’re reading this thinking, I could do that then get yourselves signed up and do it. I promise you wont regret it.
Finally, I also want to mention how amazing the Farringdon Gymbox is. As the UK’s largest performance gym there’s literally nothing you can’t train for in the gym. If you’re ever in the area be sure to check it out- they even have their own DJ!
