When it comes to gym supplements, I don’t really take any. I’ve tried them all. From protein shakes to fat burners to testosterone boosters, I don’t feel lost without any of them. Apart from pre workout.

Most of my gym sessions are in the evening so after a full day of work, pre workout supplement helps give me the motivation and energy to workout. I find I put in a better performance and keep a consistent high level of focus when I train after taking pre workout supplement.

Over the years I’ve tried many different types of pre workout supplement. I’m a big fan of changing up the supplements I take, this is key because you don’t want your body to build up a tolerance to a particular one. It is also worth noting that every so often you should take a break from it. This will help your body recover but it’ll also increase the effectiveness for when you start taking it again.

The main ingredients of pre workout supplements are caffeine and something called beta-alanine. Beta-alanine is a naturally-occurring beta-amino acid which raises muscle carnosine levels and increases the amount of work you can perform at high intensities. It’s also famous for that tingling feeling you get when you take that first sip of pre workout supplement.

Below I have rated my top pre workout supplements in terms of flavour and effectiveness. You will notice there is one pre workout supplement in my first photo that I haven’t listed below. Since I started to write this post, the SP250 pre workout supplement has been banned from being sold in the UK. This happens to a lot of pre workout supplements due to the creators adding an ingredient called DMAA. DMAA is an amphetamine-like compound and everyone knows amphetamine is a class B drug. Obviously since finding this out I have stopped using this product and flushed it down the sink! You should stay away from these products.

Also note that pre workout supplements are an 18+ product in the UK so you should always read the label/consult a doctor first before taking it.
